NEET UG

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduate (NEET UG) is an entrance exam in India for students seeking admission to undergraduate medical courses (MBBS), dental courses (BDS), and other related courses (AYUSH) in government and private institutions across India. Here are some detailed aspects of NEET UG:

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification:

Candidates must have passed or be appearing in the 12th grade with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects from a recognized board.

General category candidates must have secured at least 50% in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Biotechnology. For SC/ST/OBC candidates, the minimum marks required are 40%, and for PwD candidates, it is 45%.

Age Limit:

Candidates must be at least 17 years old by December 31 of the admission year.

The upper age limit is 25 years as of the exam date for general category candidates. A relaxation of 5 years is provided for SC/ST/OBC-NCL and PwD candidates.

Exam Structure

Mode of Exam: NEET UG is conducted in a pen-and-paper (offline) mode.

Duration: The exam lasts for 3 hours and 20 minutes.

Number of Questions: There are 200 multiple-choice questions, out of which 180 questions need to be answered.

Sections:

Physics: 50 questions (45 to be answered)

Chemistry: 50 questions (45 to be answered)

Biology: 100 questions (90 to be answered, divided into Botany and Zoology)

Marking Scheme:

Each correct answer is awarded 4 marks.

1 mark is deducted for each incorrect answer.

No marks are deducted for unanswered questions.

Syllabus

The syllabus is based on the NCERT curriculum for classes 11 and 12 and includes the following subjects:

Physics: Topics include Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electrodynamics, Optics, and Modern Physics.

Chemistry: Topics include Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry.

Biology: Topics include Botany and Zoology, covering Cell Biology, Genetics, Human Physiology, Plant Physiology, Ecology, and more.

Preparation Tips

Early Start: Begin preparation early to cover the extensive syllabus.

NCERT Books: Use NCERT textbooks as they cover the entire syllabus.

Coaching Institutes: Consider joining coaching institutes for structured guidance and practice.

Admission Process

Results: The results are declared in the form of a scorecard that includes the candidate's score, All India Rank (AIR), and category rank.

Counseling: The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) conducts counseling for All India Quota seats. State authorities conduct counseling for state quota seats.

Seat Allocation: Seats are allocated based on the candidate’s rank, preferences, and availability of seats in various medical and dental colleges.
